Why, why, why?

Why am I becoming a teacher?
After 18 years in engineering and management of an advanced aerospace materials company, I'm making the switch. I think this has less to do with me turning 40 than it does with me finally doing what I wanted to do back in college. In the dark ages of the late 80's I chose a major that was practical, rather than one that I was passionate about. Though I enjoyed and was challenged by engineering and the management and partnership of a technology company, I was never passionate about it. After years of dreaming, I took the plunge last summer, quit my job and enrolled in the MIT program.

I want to do something of significance with my life.
I want to influence kids.
I want to teach.

Welcome

So - here's Mr. Wishart's groovy math blog. Notice the word "groovy". Many of you may be unfamiliar with this piece of vocabulary, but let it be known that this word has a long and beautiful history. Plus, it's old - and so am I.
